Russian goalkeeper Andrei Vasilevsky, playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning, went down in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL) – he became the second most wins in a calendar year by the goalkeeper. This was reported on the league's website.
Vasilevsky won 60 regular season and playoff victories in 2021. The record belongs to Marc-André Fleury of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Canadian goalkeeper won 62 matches in 2009.
Tampa beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 in the NHL regular season on 8 December. Vasilevsky reflected 21 out of 23 shots.
On October 8, it became known that Vasilevsky was one of the first to join the Russian national ice hockey team at the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. The team also includes strikers Alexander Ovechkin and Nikita Kucherov.
