The Russian Foreign Ministry summed up the main foreign policy results of 2021. This was reported in a statement on the website of the Foreign Ministry.

Among the important events in the field of security and stability, the Foreign Ministry named the transfer to the United States of a proposal on security guarantees in Europe, as well as a five-year extension of the Russian-American Treaty on Measures to Further Reduce and Limit Strategic Offensive Arms. They also noted the important role of Russia in the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear deal and the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution on not being the first to place weapons in outer space.

“After the flight of the US and NATO forces from Afghanistan and the fall of the A. Ghani regime, Russia established working contacts with representatives of the new Afghan authorities,” the Foreign Ministry said. The leading role of Moscow in resolving the situation in Syria within the framework of promoting the “Astana format” was also noted.

The ministry stressed that following the course towards the implementation of the Minsk agreements made it possible to prevent a military escalation of the conflict in Donbass. “The priority of Russia's foreign policy remained the promotion of integration projects and cooperation in the space of Greater Eurasia,” the department concluded.

In addition, the Foreign Ministry pointed to the development of relations and trade and investment ties with the states of the Asia-Pacific region (APR). In particular, they mention record indicators of trade and cooperation with China and the ASEAN countries. They will also emphasize the mutually beneficial nature of Russia's relations with the states of the Middle East and Africa.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that Russia does not intend to return to the “iron curtain” in relations with Western states. The diplomat stressed that the Russian side will not take steps in this direction.
