The representative of the department, Maria Zakharova, said that this is an internal affair of the United States, but in Russia they wish the American people to survive this test with dignity, RIA Novosti reports.
“We wish the friendly American people with dignity to experience this dramatic moment in their own history,” the agency quoted her as saying.
Zakharova shared her opinion on the reasons for what happened: she recalled that the electoral system of the United States is archaic and does not meet modern requirements, and the media are actively used in political struggle. All this caused the split in society that is observed in the United States, the diplomat said.

The Senate and the House of Representatives interrupted a meeting at which it was planned to approve the results of the last elections. Trump urged his supporters to act peacefully and support the police, but his social media has been blocked despite this. The Capitol Building in Washington was later cleared of protesters. Former US President Barack Obama has accused Trump of inciting violence.
