Russian figure skater Valieva failed a doping test: will they take gold from the ROC team

by alex

The ROC figure skating team is at the center of a doping scandal at the 2022 Olympics. On Wednesday morning, information appeared that one of the Russian skaters had passed a positive doping test. Because of this, the IOC rescheduled the tag team awards ceremony , which was scheduled to take place on 7 February.

The publication Inside the Games, which was the first to report doping problems in the ROC at the 2022 Games, has now named the name of the Russian figure skater who was at the epicenter of the scandal. The test failed Kamila Valieva.

It is noted that the athlete passed the test before the competition in China. He showed the presence of a forbidden substance in a microdose. The decision to disqualify Valieva should be made on February 10.

Soon, the Russian resource Sport-Express reported that Valiyeva would be suspended from the Olympic competition and not allowed to the individual tournament in the singles program. At the same time, the ROC team will be deprived of gold medals for winning the team tournament at the 2022 Olympics.

Interestingly, it was after Valieva's performance at the team tournament in Russia that the hysteria began due to the fact that the Ukrainian delegation did not give a standing ovation after her performance of the program. The Russian side noted that the Ukrainians were the only ones who did not burst into thunderous applause after the “splendid performance of Kamila”.

On February 9, out of six skaters from the ROC who took part in the team tournament, only two were in training. At first, Mark Kondratyuk was suspected of doping, but Svetlana Sokolovskaya, who is his coach, said that her ward received a day off.

If the ROC is nevertheless taken away from the gold in the team tournament, the US team will become the champions in this discipline, the Japanese will have the silver, and the Canadians will have the bronze.
