Russian Ambassador to the Central African Republic (CAR) Vladimir Titorenko revealed the details of the helicopter crash with the Russian military. Reported by RIA Novosti.
According to him, the incident occurred with a light Gazelle helicopter. It is used by the National Army for observation flights over the highway between the border with Cameroon and Bangui. The diplomat noted that this is the way to supply the capital of the CAR with food and medicine.
“Periodically, this road is fired from the adjacent forest areas by the remnants of the rebels who cannot accept a military defeat,” Titorenko said. He added that technical problems with the engine became the cause of the helicopter crash. As a result of the incident, no one was injured, the ambassador added.
Russia in December 2020, at the request of the CAR authorities, sent 300 military instructors to the country. It was clarified that on the spot they would train the servicemen of the republic's national army. At the same time, information appeared that Russian mercenaries began to help the CAR army – they were noticed 130 kilometers north-west of the republic's capital, Bangui, along with mercenaries from Rwanda and representatives of the CAR Armed Forces (FACA).
