Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) “Eleron-3” and “Orlan-10” are used to protect Kaliningrad, Izvestia reports, citing sources in the Russian Defense Ministry.
According to the newspaper, the corresponding UAV unit became part of the 336th Separate Marine Brigade of the Baltic Fleet, located in Baltiysk. The publication writes that in addition “Eleron-3” and “Orlan-10” are planned to be used to target coastal missile systems (DBK) and artillery.
The newspaper reminds that “Eleron-3” is launched using a pneumatic catapult, is capable of staying in the air for up to two hours, develops a speed of more than 100 kilometers per hour and has a reconnaissance range of 15-25 kilometers, while the 18-kilogram “Orlan-10” is capable of stay in the air for up to 12 hours, transmit an image from a distance of 150 kilometers and can be equipped, in particular, with jamming systems for cellular networks.
“These devices form the reconnaissance and information field for the brigade command. It allows the commander to always know the location of not only the enemy, but also friendly forces and ultimately better navigate the changing situation, “said military expert Viktor Murakhovsky.
In January, Over Defense, using data from the American organization Center for Naval Analyzes (CNA), published a scenario for a preemptive NATO strike in the Kaliningrad region, involving the elimination of four main targets in the region.
