The drones, allegedly belonging to the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia, were suspected of striking oil smuggling objects in Syria. Al Masdar News reported.

According to the agency, the attack targeted facilities in the city of Tarhin in Aleppo province, which are used by pro-Turkish groups to smuggle Syrian oil. The strikes were made on Sunday evening, January 24th.

This attack was the second attack on such objects in the current month. Previously, Turkish-backed jihadist smugglers were bombarded by drones on 9 January.

According to Al Masdar News, Orion attack drones were probably used in the attacks on the jihadists.

Orion is the first Russian unmanned aerial vehicle of the MALE class (long-duration medium-altitude vehicle). In 2019, it became known that this drone was tested in Syria. In particular, in the shock version, the drone, capable of carrying up to four missiles, successfully hit all targets. In December 2020, the Russian Ministry of Defense first showed the Orion drone in a shock version.
