The Omicron strain of the coronavirus is the latest attack of the coronavirus. So he was named by the chief epidemiologist of Yekaterinburg, chief freelance specialist in medical prevention of the Ministry of Health of the Sverdlovsk Region Alexander Kharitonov, according to the information portal of the region.
According to him, omicron is not the last mutation of the coronavirus. “But the fact that this is his last serious attack, I agree. Because today a good defense, a wall, has already been built against this strain. And the height of this wall depends on you and me,” Kharitonov emphasized.
He added that epidemiologists should learn how to manage the infection. One such method is vaccination. At the same time, the specialist clarified that the sharp daily increase in the incidence of COVID-19 is associated with the past New Year holidays.
Earlier, virologist Konstantin Chumakov said that the omicron strain of coronavirus does not progress to pneumonia, unlike other strains. The infectivity of omicron has increased markedly, but this can be considered good news, as the pathogenicity and lethality of the virus have decreased as a result, the specialist emphasized.
