Police in front of a school in Conflans-Saint-Honorine, where the murdered teacher worked
The Russian Embassy in Paris is in contact with the French authorities in the case of the murder of a teacher, in which a citizen of the Russian Federation is suspected.
The Russian diplomatic mission told Interfax that representatives of the embassy are working to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
They also noted that a press conference of the prosecutor in charge of the case is expected later on Saturday.
In Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, in the Yvelines department near Paris, a teacher was beheaded for showing students caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad as an example of freedom of expression.
The alleged killer was shot and killed by police in the neighboring town of Eranyi during his arrest. The investigation of the crime was taken up by the anti-terrorist prosecutor's office.
The BFMTV channel reported, citing its sources, that the alleged killer was born in Moscow in 2002. He, according to the channel, was not known as an offender to either the police or the anti-terrorist special service. Before the attack, the terrorist allegedly shouted “Allahu Akbar”.
According to French media, nine people have already been detained as part of the investigation.
French prosecutors consider the attack a terrorist act.
