The Russian over-the-horizon station “Container” operates in the range of short waves (tens to hundreds of meters), where the stealth effect provided by the use of aircraft like the American F-35 Lightning II, radio-absorbing coatings and uniforms, stops working, the general director of the concern told RIA Novosti “RTI Systems” Yuri Anoshko.
According to him, “the task for over-the-horizon stations to identify types of air targets is not worth it.” “The task is to detect a change in the intensity of the use of aviation over the horizon, at a distance of up to three thousand kilometers from the station's position,” the developer said.
The CEO revealed a way to detect stealth aircraft. “Accordingly, knowing from open sources where the F-35s are based, and knowing that they were flying, we can say for sure that we saw and accompanied them,” the specialist noted.
Anoshko ruled out the possibility of the American stealthy strategic bombers B-2 Spirit to break through the Russian air defense (AA). “The probability of a direct breakthrough by these aircraft of our air defense system is practically zero. Some other means should make a breakthrough zone for them, and then it will become possible, ”the developer noted.
According to him, “today, where B-2Bs are deployed, and this is far beyond our territory, we detect them with the help of over-the-horizon stations while still on the flight route.”
In August, Pavel Sozinov, deputy general director of the Almaz-Antey concern, said stealth aircraft like the American F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II could be detected by Russian radars.
In December, RTI Systems reported that over the past 12 months, the “Container” over-the-horizon radar station located in Mordovia had recorded “flights of NATO countries' stealth fighters.”
