The streams of incandescent lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of Palma, erupting for more than a week, were removed from orbit by Russian cosmonauts.
“For more than a week, a powerful volcanic eruption has been going on on the Spanish island of Palma … Yesterday, Pyotr Dubrov and I managed to photograph the volcano's magma from the ISS at night,” Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky wrote on Twitter, recalling that lavas reached the ocean and released caustic gas into the atmosphere.
