Russian chess player Alexandra Kosteniuk won the World Rapid Championship. TASS reports.
In the last round, Kosteniuk played black against Ekaterina Lagno of Russia. The decisive match ended in a draw.
As a result of the competition, Kosteniuk scored nine points and broke away from her rivals in the standings. For a chess player, this victory at the World Championship was the first in her career. Previously, she remained in second place three times.
The world rapid champion was determined by the results of 11 rounds. The tournament was held in Warsaw.
On October 2, the Russian women's national chess team defeated the Indian team in the final of the World Team Championship. The team included Kosteniuk and Lagno, as well as Alexandra Goryachkina, Polina Shuvalova and Alina Kashlinskaya.
