The World Blitz and Rapid Championship among men and women in which Ukrainian chess players also took part ended in Warsaw.
19-year-old Ukrainian Kirill Shevchenko and 23-year-old Russian David Paravyan met in one of the rapid chess games.
In the endgame of the meeting, David got into time trouble, although he had a winning position. Paravyan wanted to put a second queen instead of a pawn, which is allowed by the rules, but there was no substitute piece nearby. Then he stopped the clock and waited for the arbiter to hand it over to him.
When he started the clock again, after a second the time passed. David got angry and hurled the figure out of emotion. However, he suddenly smiled and politely shook hands with Shevchenko, who had won.
