Russian authorities want to regulate recommendation systems on YouTube and social networks

Information about a fresh Russian bill appeared on the Internet. In the event that it is nevertheless adopted, YouTube and other social networks will be required to give access to the regulation of their algorithms.

To be more precise, the Russian authorities want to ensure that Internet sites give users access to turn them off, Kommersant reports. At the same time, social networks, news aggregators and audiovisual services will have to warn them that they are offered information based on data analysis.

According to the deputy Anton Gorelkin, who participated in the development of the document, it is very important that the recommendation algorithms work transparently. Otherwise, they will be configured in such a way that “there are always fakes, provocations, bullying in the feed”.

The State Duma Committee on Information Policy is called the author of the new bill. It is headed by Alexander Khinshtein, who is also a co-author of the law on blocking prohibited content by social networks, including mat.
