Russian authorities to discuss the need to block WhatsApp

by alex

Alexander Khinshtein, head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, will discuss with Roskomnadzor the response to the update of the WhatsApp user agreement, which allegedly contradicts Russian law.

Khinshtein told RIA Novosti reporters that it is possible to restrict the work of WhatsApp in Russia, but this is a matter for broad discussion. The parliamentarian promised to prepare an appeal to Roskomnadzor, if necessary.

Earlier, another parliamentarian Anton Gorelkin clarified that WhatsApp formally complies with the terms of the law on the transfer of personal data, but in fact does not give the user the right to choose.

As a reminder, from today on, WhatsApp has begun sending out irrevocable notifications about the adoption of the new rules. Until the user agrees, the functionality of his account will be limited.
