Russian authorities and mobile operators agree to eliminate advertising calls

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has signed a memorandum on combating telephone spam with the Big Four operators.

The Big Four includes MTS, VimpelCom with the Beeline brand, MegaFon and Tele2. The head of the FAS noted that now the Russians are receiving a large number of spam calls. In 2020, for example, the service received 16,000 ad complaints, of which 3,000 were call complaints.

Telecom operators have already developed special methods for blocking advertising calls. But to effectively combat spammers, mobile operators need to unite. Therefore, industry-wide initiatives will be organized to combat the problem. “Voice spam will cease to exist only when operator systems cover the entire market,” a Tele2 spokesman said.
