The heavy missile “Angara-A5”, launched for the second time in its history on December 14, suits the Ministry of Defense. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, reports RIA Novosti.
According to him, the characteristics of this carrier “already meet all the requirements of the main customer – the Ministry of Defense.”
In November, the chief designer of the Angara complex, Dmitry Petrov, said that the heavy carriers of the first and second flight tests did not differ structurally from each other.
In October, Dmitry Rogozin, the general director of Roscosmos, said that the first flight test of Angara-A5 carried out in 2014 “did not confirm the customer's requirements,” because “the mass to be removed was lower than necessary.”
The Angara rocket, which in its heavy version is to replace the Proton-M, is being built by the Moscow Khrunichev Center, the most problematic and unprofitable enterprise of Roscosmos. The creation of missiles has been going on for more than a quarter of a century and has required more than five billion dollars. Currently, the debts of the Khrunichev Center amount to tens of billions of rubles.
