Former Russian ambassador to Iraq (2002-2003) Vladimir Titorenko said that the US-formed Iraqi transitional government had no right to judge former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. He stated in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The transitional government was not a government elected by the Iraqi people. It was formed by the Americans, and it had no right to conduct the trial of Saddam Hussein, ”Titorenko said.

The Russian diplomat added that the special tribunal did not have the authority to try Hussein, as he was the president, the supreme commander of the armed forces and made decisions based on the current legislation. He called the accusations related to the war with Iran and the use of chemical weapons groundless. “There is no evidence that Saddam used these chemical weapons,” the former ambassador concluded.

Earlier, a former Iraqi translator who worked with the Americans anonymously disclosed details of Saddam Hussein's detention. According to him, he was with the US military conducting the operation. Hussein's whereabouts were determined as a result of surveillance of his security guard, who was buying up “the best goods of certain brands” in the markets. He was on a farm in the El Maabar area.

Dictator Saddam Hussein was executed on December 30, 2006. He was arrested as a result of the US invasion of Iraq, which took place under the pretext of searching for weapons of mass destruction, the presence of which in the country has not been confirmed. However, the prosecution was able to prove Hussein's guilt in the killings of the Iraqi population.
