According to John Ratcliffe, the Russian-Ukrainian war is wreaking havoc and increasing the risk of the United States being drawn into a conflict with a nuclear-armed country.
Former US Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe during the Senate hearing of his nomination for CIA director in the Trump administration on Wednesday, January 15, said that the main threats to the United States are the spread of Russian aggression, China's desire to dominate, and transnational criminal organizations.
The Voice of America writes about this.
“The Russian-Ukrainian war continues, sowing destruction and increasing the risk of the United States being drawn into a conflict with a nuclear power,” Ratcliffe said.
In his opinion, the United States today faces “probably the most difficult national security situation in the history of the country.” He listed the greatest threats to US security, the first of which he named the Chinese Communist Party's efforts to become a country that dominates the world economy, advanced technology, and the military.
Ratcliffe also noted that “transnational criminal organizations are flooding American societies with violence and deadly drugs,” which creates an extremely threatening situation in the country. He also drew attention to the destructive impact of Russia's war against Ukraine, especially since it could involve the United States in a nuclear conflict.
According to Radcliffe, the Iranian regime and the terrorist groups it finances, the general situation in the Middle East, and North Korea's intentions to destabilize the South Asian region also pose a threat to U.S. national security.
“Tightening coordination between America's rivals and adversaries could increase the threats that each of them poses to us individually,” Ratcliffe emphasized.
At the same time, he noted that the future of national security, geopolitics, and human civilization in general will be determined by the latest technologies, in particular artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
Recall that US Senator Marco Rubio, Donald Trump's choice for Secretary of State, said that both Ukraine and Russia must make concessions to end the war. In his opinion, Russia will not be able to occupy all of Ukraine, however, Ukraine is not currently capable of returning all of the occupied territories.
