Russia will train generals from military personnel returning from Ukraine – British intelligence

~6 0~p>In Russia, officers who returned from the war in Ukraine are going to be made generals.

A significant number of officers have appeared in the Russian army who gained combat experience in the war with Ukraine. Future generals will be trained from them.

This was reported by the British Ministry of Defense intelligence on Twitter.

It is noted that on December 1, 2023, a new recruitment of Russian officers began at the Russian General Staff Academy. The Russian Ministry of Defense said that more than 60% of them have combat experience. Most likely, we are talking about the experience of the war in Ukraine.

According to British intelligence, people who train at the academy typically rank between major and major general (equivalent to a one-star general in the NATO system) and are singled out as those who have potential for high command.

Although a significant portion of some specialists, such as pilots, were deployed to operations in Syria, the war in Ukraine means that combat experience is now more common among mid-level Russian officers.

“In the coming years, this generation is likely to influence the future direction of the Russian army and whether it applies the lessons learned from the war in Ukraine,” says the British Ministry of Defense.

Note that Russia lost at least seven generals in the war against Ukraine. Russian Major General Vladimir Zavadsky became the last of them.
