From October 2021 to October 2022, the Ministry of Digital Science will conduct an experiment to collect, process and store biometric data of citizens – voice recordings, fingerprints and eye images. Participation in the experiment is voluntary. Anyone can register in the biometric data storage service using the Biometrics application. All participants in the experiment will have access to services with support for biometric identification.
As noted, citizens need to independently register in the application and consent to the processing of personal data in the ESIA system. Through the application, citizens will be able to record a voice, take pictures of their faces, eyes and upload all data to the Unified Biometric System. The point of the experiment is to check the reliability of the biometric system and the correctness of working with user data. For the participants of the experiment, opportunities are opened up for servicing in a remote banking service, biometric payments, including travel in the Moscow metro.
“The ability to independently submit your biometric personal data to receive services in a remote format will expand the scope of application to new industries and make digital services more accessible for all categories of citizens, including those living in remote areas, as well as for the elderly and people with limited mobility,” they noted in the Ministry of Digital Science.
