Russia will spend 7.5 billion rubles on 32-nuclear “Elbrus”

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia has ordered the development of a new Elbrus processor for 7.5 billion rubles. The corresponding application appeared on the public procurement website.

Under the terms of the competition, the contractor must develop a universal 32-core microprocessor to create a series of computing systems in the class of high-performance servers and data storage systems of the highest performance level and supercomputers.

The application materials say that the Elbrus-32C microprocessor will have the performance of the teraflop and petaflop ranges. The new development will be used to equip industrial and special systems, institutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the aerospace industry and nuclear power, artificial intelligence. The Elbrus-32C operating temperature range will be from minus 60 to plus 90 degrees.

According to the terms of the competition, the contractor will have to involve small businesses or a socially oriented non-profit organization in the amount of 15 percent of the contract value in the work on the tender, or he himself must belong to these organizations.

At the beginning of the year it became known that the first buyer was found for computers based on the Russian Elbrus processor. From the information posted on the public procurement website, it follows that Russian Railways is ready to purchase equipment worth up to 1.08 billion rubles. The customer demanded to supply 15 thousand computers.
