The Russian Foreign Ministry declared two diplomats from Germany persona non grata in response to the relevant decision of Berlin. This was reported in a statement on the agency's website.
The Foreign Ministry pointed out that the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Moscow, Gese Andreas von Gaire, had been vigorously protesting against the unfriendly decision of the German government to declare two employees of the Russian embassy in Berlin persona non grata. It is noted that German diplomats will be expelled from the country as a retaliatory measure.
The Russian ministry stressed that Moscow will respond proportionately to any unfriendly steps by Berlin in the future. The department also rejected accusations of the involvement of Russian state bodies in the murder of Georgian citizen Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, which were “divorced from reality”, which is connected with the decision of the FRG against diplomats from Russia.
On December 15, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock announced that Germany was declaring two Russian diplomats persona non grata. This decision is connected with the conviction of the Russian Vadim Sokolov (Krasikov) in the case of the murder of Khangoshvili in Berlin in 2019. Killed – a former field commander who fought against Russia during the second Chechen war on the side of Shamil Basayev's militants.
