Russia will seek explanations from Western states on the implementation of the decisions of the OSCE summits on the topic of non-expansion of NATO. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, commenting on the US response to Moscow’s proposals on security guarantees, TASS reports.
We are talking about the points where it is said that the exercise of the right to freedom of choice of military alliances should not infringe on the security interests of other countries. “In the very near future, we will send them an official request demanding to explain why they are pulling out of their own obligations only one point, and they are trying to ignore the conditions of compliance with this beloved point for them. This will be an official request to all countries whose leaders signed the Istanbul Declaration and Astana,” the Foreign Minister said.
Lavrov also noted that the US position on this issue is crafty. “The principle that one cannot strengthen one’s security at the expense of the security of others is deliberately hushed up,” the diplomat said.
Earlier, the Foreign Minister, commenting on the content of the US response to Moscow’s proposals on security guarantees in Europe, noted that the response of the other side still allows us to count on a serious conversation, but it will concern secondary topics. The primary topics for Moscow are the non-expansion of NATO to the east and the non-deployment of strike weapons in the immediate vicinity of the Russian borders.
