In total, the agreement between the Russian Federation and India provides for the construction of 4 frigates with guided missiles.
The Russian Federation can replenish its military fleet after the loss of two ships from India as a result of the war in Ukraine. The supply should take place under the agreement that India concluded with Russia back in 2018
This is reported by Bloomberg.
According to the publication, in total, the agreement provides for the construction of 4 frigates with guided missiles with stealth functions. Supply is two years behind schedule due to the war in Ukraine.
“One ship will likely be delivered to India in September 2024, and the other early next year,” writes Bloomberg.
Two other ships are being built in India in cooperation with Russia, but are also behind schedule due to supply chain problems.
Frigates must use Ukrainian-made gas turbines. Trade between Ukraine and Russia stopped in 2014, so India bought them through a third country.
“India and Russia, also strategic partners, were able to bypass the payment problem,” writes Bloomberg.
Recall that during the period of a full-scale war, Ukraine sank or disabled a third of all Russian warships in the Black Sea. This dealt a strong blow to the military potential of the aggressor country.
