The manufacturer of domestic processors “Baikal Electronics” has decided to invest 23 billion rubles in expanding the product line. The new processors will be significantly better than the previous ones.
The company will invest this money until 2025. Baikal Electronics wants to produce new chips at Taiwanese TSMC, Kommersant writes. The company plans to release new generations of Baikal processors based on ARMv9 architecture. They will be used in computers, laptops, tablets, even supercomputers. The chips will be manufactured at 12-6 nm standards. This is a significant leap for Baikal: now these processors are manufactured using 28-nm technology.
These plans may have problems associated with a shortage of TSMС capacity. The Taiwanese company is now focused on making chips for Apple and the automotive industry.
