Russia does not support the vague and secondary agenda voiced by the United States in the negotiations on security guarantees in Europe. This was stated by the deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Ryabkov, Interfax reports.
The diplomat called on the American side to focus exclusively on the specific draft documents that Moscow presented. According to him, given the degree of disagreement between the parties, the upcoming negotiations are a very difficult task.
“We call for negotiations, intensive and quick at that. We believe that the issue is not just ripe, it is overripe, ”concluded Ryabkov. He emphasized that Russia will no longer put up with the expansion of NATO forces to the east and intends to put a barrier to this.
The deputy foreign minister said that Moscow will seek a sharp reduction in the military presence of the United States and the North Atlantic alliance at the Russian borders. “We cannot do without a serious in-depth discussion of this very topic in the course of upcoming contacts,” he said.
Earlier it became known that negotiations between Russia and the United States on Ukraine and arms control will take place on January 10. On January 12, the Russian delegation will meet with representatives of NATO, and on January 13, with representatives of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
