An-178
Russia is ready to offer Peru a number of military transport aviation instead of the Ukrainian An-178. RIA Novosti was informed about this by a source in the field of military-technical cooperation.
“These can be both updated versions of the heavy Il-76, and the newest medium Il-112, there are other options,” – said the agency's interlocutor.
According to him, the Peruvian Interior Ministry has suspended the contract for the purchase of Ukrainian An-178 aircraft for the national police, which was concluded in 2019 with delivery in 2021. At present, the aircraft is only 40 percent ready, and the issue of its configuration is very problematic, since there are no Russian components for it, the source explained.
He stressed that the Ukrainian side actually misinformed the Peruvian leadership, promising that there would be no difficulties with Russian components due to broader cooperation with European and American partners. Currently, the Peruvian authorities are considering purchasing the aircraft in other countries, including Russia.
The An-178 short-haul cargo turbojet aircraft, developed on the basis of the An-158 passenger aircraft, is intended to replace the An-12 in the world market. The design of the An-178 began in 2010, the aircraft made its first flight in 2015. With a payload comparable to that of the An-12, the new aircraft has increased its maximum cruising speed and range.
Until 2014, Russian enterprises supplied about a third of the components for the An-178, in particular, landing gear, auxiliary power unit, as well as elements of avionics, hydraulics and control.
