The Russian Defense Ministry will increase purchases of fifth-generation Su-57 fighters, Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko told Krasnaya Zvezda.
“Already now, we are working on measures to further increase the purchase of Su-57 aircraft, the results of which will be taken into account in the new state armament program,” the Deputy Minister said.
Krivoruchko added that by the end of 2022, the Ministry of Defense will receive 22 such fighters.
In December, RIA Novosti reported that the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) received the first serial Su-57. According to TASS, the aircraft is currently at the Valery Chkalov State Flight Test Center (GLITS) in Akhtubinsk (Astrakhan Region), where it will be “used to test the latest aviation hypersonic weapons.” The first serial Su-57 entered service with one of the aviation regiments of the Southern Military District.
In December 2019, the Su-57 crashed, which was supposed to become the first serial fifth-generation fighter adopted by the Russian Aerospace Forces.
By 2028, the Russian Aerospace Forces, according to the current state armaments program, should receive 76 Su-57 units.
