Russia intends to create a new strategic missile system (SRK). This is reported by TASS with reference to a source in the rocket and space industry.
The new development will be named “Cedar”. The source said that at present work on the SRK is being carried out in a research plan: “So far, this is deep research (research work).”
Also, the interlocutor of the agency noted that the research work “Kedr” can be described as “work within the framework of the modernization of strategic weapons.” “If it turns into development work after a while, then it will be possible to speak substantively,” the source said.
The journalists noted that at present, the Strategic Missile Forces have the Topol, Topol-M and Yars intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). Also, there is a rearmament on the Avangard hypersonic missile systems.
In mid-February, the special presidential envoy and former Russian defense minister, Sergei Ivanov, first told how much it would cost to develop the latest weapons in the country. According to Ivanov, work on the creation of a superweapon was carried out for ten years and cost the state 10-20 billion rubles a year.
