Russia will conduct in the Arctic in the framework of firing tests with a “modern missile defense complex” (ABM) using a hypersonic target. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to its source.
According to the interlocutor of the agency, the shooting will take place before the end of the year at one of the military ranges in the Arctic. He said that the missile defense system will have to detect, escort and hit a hypersonic target. It is noted that as part of the tests, the target should be hit at a distance of hundreds of kilometers.
At the moment, the anti-missile defense functions in the Russian army can be performed by the S-400 “Triumph”; tests of the S-500 “Prometheus” air defense / missile defense system are also being completed. In addition, the development of a mobile special system PRO-550 is underway, however, the presence of its ready-to-test samples was not reported.
Earlier it became known that the Russian complexes S-500 “Prometheus” and “Pantsir-SM” will be combined into a single circuit, where the latter will cover the first. Izvestia, citing sources in the Ministry of Defense, notes that Pantsir-SM, also called Super-Armors, will protect the S-500 Prometheus from enemy drones and cruise missiles. The newspaper writes that the Russian military department is solving technical issues related to the integration of these complexes into a single circuit.
