A British officer says that, like Hitler in the 1930s, Russia has received the green light from the world to continue its imperialist ambitions.
Whatever the outcome of the war in Ukraine, Russia will still be dangerous.
This is stated in an article by retired British Colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon for The Telegraph.
The author recalls the recent speech of the new Chief of the British General Staff, General Raleigh Walker.
“The lesson of history is that the Russians don't forget, and they will come back for revenge… Every time you think Russia has fallen, they come back,” noted Walker.
According to the author of the article, Russia will still be an enemy of Britain and in the future may be just as dangerous.
“We must rearm, and quickly, and that – contrary to what many had hoped for, especially in Europe – there will be no return to the world it was before the full-scale invasion Moscow,” notes Hamish de Bretton-Gordon.
According to him, the war radically changed Russian society: it became something more like a fascist state, completely numb, immersed in propaganda and convinced that he is at war with the entire West.
A British officer says that, like Hitler in the 1930s, Russia has received the green light from the world to continue its imperialist ambitions.
“We were warned in Syria and Crimea, but we did little to weaken Putin's freedom of strategic advancement. Those who think we can simply return to the status quo are wrong: Russia, even if defeated, will be our enemy This is a new Cold War scenario, but there is a real danger of becoming hot without decisive action,” concluded Hamish de Bretton-Gordon.
Politico previously wrote that Britain and Germany are joining forces on defense over fears that Trump will abandon Ukraine.
