Russia was outraged by the decision of the court in Kiev on the “non-Nazi” symbols of the SS division

The decision of the court in Kiev not to recognize the symbols of the SS division “Galicia” as Nazi outrages the Russian authorities. This was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, RT reports.

She called on the Ukrainian authorities “to stop whitewashing the atrocities of Hitler's criminals, henchmen, collaborators, and finally to do something to curb the rampant national radicals in the country who openly propagate fascist ideas.”

Zakharova recalled that the soldiers of this division participated in the destruction of civilians in the Nazi-occupied territories, and that the Polish parliament in 2016 recognized their actions as genocide of the Polish people.

On September 23, it became known that the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal in Kiev recognized the symbols of the 14th SS Grenadier Division Galicia (1st Ukrainian Division of the Ukrainian National Army) as non-Nazi, thus allowing its use in the country. Thus, the court overturned the decision to ban her, taken in May this year.

This division was recruited from Ukrainian volunteers and was defeated by Soviet troops in 1944. Like other units of the SS troops, she was convicted of war crimes at the Nuremberg Tribunal.
