Ayman Safadi

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi praised Russia's role in ensuring stability in the Middle East. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.

He also saw Moscow as the guarantor of security in the region. “Jordan is convinced that Russia has an important role to play in ensuring stability,” al-Safadi confirmed during talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

The Jordanian diplomat added that he was counting on a detailed conversation about bilateral relations. Lavrov replied that he was going to discuss the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, the situation in Syria, Iraq and the events in the Persian Gulf.

In June 2020, US Assistant Secretary of State David Schenker said that Russia should get out of the Middle East, where it allegedly exerts a destructive influence. According to him, Moscow managed to gain a foothold in the region because former US President Barack Obama allowed it. The Russian Foreign Ministry replied that such statements are “beyond the bounds of good and evil.”
