Maria Zakharova
During the briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned the European Union against imposing new sanctions and warned Brussels about the consequences. TASS reports.
The diplomat said that Moscow will respond proportionately to the EU's restrictive measures. “It is absolutely unacceptable to use human rights, to refer to democratic principles as a geopolitical toolkit,” Zakharova added.
Earlier, the representative of the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, Peter Stano, told reporters about the development of new sanctions against Russia. Speaking about the new restrictive measures, he emphasized that at this stage the process is confidential, so the association is not ready to comment on it.
The statement came a few days after the official visit of Josep Borrell, which lasted from 4 to 6 February. On February 5, he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. A few days later, the head of EU diplomacy allowed the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. He also reproached the Russian Federation for its unwillingness to restore constructive relations with Europe.
