Russia previously said it would stop gas supplies to Moldova.
Moldova Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that Russia had decided to leave residents of Transnistria without electricity and heat in the middle of winter, using gas as a political weapon.
Thus, he commented on the decision of the Russian Gazprom to stop gas supplies to Moldova from January 1.
He stated that Russia is turning the residents of Transnistria, which it controls, into hostages by illegally deploying its troops there.
Rechan stated that he condemns such actions by the Kremlin and “does not recognize a single alleged debt that has been declared invalid by an international audit.”
In addition, he recalled that Chisinau had previously diversified gas supplies in order to reduce dependence on a single supplier for Right Bank.
The Moldovan Prime Minister promised that the country's authorities will find ways to cope with the situation and will continue to supply gas from other sources to protect vulnerable consumers.
He also added that the Moldovan government will carefully analyze legal options, in particular, appeal to international arbitration to protect our national interests and demand compensation for the Kremlin's decision for the damage caused to the economy.
Recall that it was previously reported that Gazprom is stopping gas supplies to Moldova.
In addition, we previously reported that Moldova is preparing for an energy crisis, so in emergency austerity measures were introduced in the country.
