In Russia, it is planned to introduce a digital profile of the student, which will store all the successes and failures of the child starting from kindergarten. The corresponding concept was developed by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Kommersant newspaper reported on Tuesday, June 8, citing a copy of the document.
According to the publication, the digital profile, according to the plans of the Ministry of Education, will become mandatory, it will be registered at the first request for an educational service, for example, when a child enrolls in a kindergarten or in the first grade of school. In a digital portfolio, it is proposed to store data on all the achievements and failures of students. The profile will contain relevant information “necessary for identification in the educational process,” the project says.
A Kommersant source familiar with the details of the project said that the creation of digital profiles of students will be tested as part of an experiment on the implementation of a digital educational environment, which is taking place in 15 regions of Russia until December 31, 2022.
Risk of abuse
The head of Rosobrnadzor, Anzor Muzaev, said in an interview with TASS that his department was going to create a resource called “My Success”, where they would collect the student's achievements and form his digital portrait. According to Muzaev, universities will be able to take these data into account when enrolling applicants.
Meanwhile, experts drew attention to the risks of abuse and expressed doubts about the advisability of the total collection and storage of educational data. For example, Moscow Digital School teacher Oleg Blinov believes that digital portfolios will contain “a fantastic amount of data” about children, their progress and attendance. “In the event of a leak, all of them can be used to deceive children, including social engineering,” Blinov explained.
