Russia wants to get full control over Zaporizhia NPP

Russia plans to take full and permanent control of the Zaporozhye Ukrainian nuclear power plant.

This was reported by the UN International Agency for the Supervision of Nuclear Energy (IAEA) with reference to the data of the Ukrainian company Energoatom.

Energoatom has informed the IAEA of Russia's intentions to run the Zaporizhzhya NPP under the leadership of its state-owned nuclear company, Rosatom.

Energoatom also said that the staff had to coordinate with the Russian occupying forces all operational matters, including technical ones. A few days ago, Russian specialists arrived at the captured nuclear power plant to assess the radiation situation.

Russia, which seized the nuclear power plant after a tense battle with Ukrainian troops on March 4, denied these claims. However, Rosatom confirmed that there are Russian specialists at ZNPP.

Energoatom also informed the IAEA that repairs to damaged power lines at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant are ongoing. Currently, diesel generators provide backup power to the systems, which is important for the safety of the facility.

According to Energoatom, 211 technical staff and security guards are still unable to change jobs, having actually lived there since the day Russian forces took control of the nuclear power plant.
