United Nations (UN) observers have found confirmation that Russia used North Korean missiles to attack Ukrainian territory.

Russia launched North Korean missiles at Ukraine

The UN examined the wreckage of a missile launched from the territory of the Russian Federation on January 2, writes Reuters with reference to the report of a Security Council committee.

According to experts, the fragments of the rocket that fell in Kharkov on January 2, 2024 belong to the North Korean Hwasong-11 ballistic missile.

According to the report, UN observers found no evidence that the missile was produced in Russia. At the same time, they were unable to independently determine where the rocket was launched from and by whom.

— Trajectory information provided by Ukrainian authorities indicates that the launch was within the territory of the Russian Federation. This arrangement, if the missile were under the control of Russian forces, would likely mean purchase by Russian citizens, — says the report.

The imposed sanctions prohibit the import and export of military technology to the DPRK, so Russia violated the UN embargo.

North Korea has been under UN sanctions for its ballistic missile production and nuclear program since 2006. These restrictions increase over the years.
