Vice-President of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko considers it expedient to deprive the national symbols of the national teams of the countries whose leaders announced a diplomatic boycott of the Olympic Games in Beijing. His words are quoted by TASS.
Chernyshenko called on the national teams of the USA, Australia, Great Britain and Canada to be stripped of their flags. These countries have announced a diplomatic boycott of the Games in Beijing, their officials will refuse to attend the competitions in China.
According to Chernyshenko, such a measure will help cool hot heads. “Everyone who boycotts should be deprived of the flag, anthem and other national symbols,” the member of the government is convinced.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the reason for the diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing by the United States is the desire to contain the development of China. In his opinion, sport should unite peoples, but some countries use it for political purposes.
The Beijing Olympics will take place from 4 to 20 February. Russia will play at the Games in a neutral status due to the sanctions of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
