Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov said that Canada, by imposing anti-Russian sanctions, limits its own horizons of cooperation, primarily in the innovation sphere. He announced such losses on the air of Russia 24, TASS reports.

“By imposing sanctions against us, Ottawa itself limits its horizons of cooperation, primarily in the innovation sphere,” the Russian ambassador said, citing small modular reactors as an example of ensuring a green transition and the development of nuclear energy.

At the same time, Stepanov noted that Canadian business, despite the situation, considers the Russian market very promising, and the trade turnover between Moscow and Ottawa is growing. “Last year it grew by more than three quarters compared to the previous year and largely due to our exports,” the ambassador stressed.

He also said that Russia is always open to cooperation with Canada, taking into account the interests of the two countries in a number of areas. “Moreover, we have similar approaches in the field of agriculture, fishing, mining, the creation of advanced energy and information and communication technologies, including artificial intelligence,” he concluded.
