Russia threatens Japan with “serious consequences”: what does Ukraine have to do with it

~6 0~p>Japan said it would send Patriot air defense missiles to the United States. The Kremlin is confident that these missiles will later end up in Ukraine.

Russia is scaring Japan with a “deterioration in bilateral relations” due to the supply of missiles to the United States for Patriot air defense system.

This is reported by Reuters.

“The Japanese side is losing control of weapons, with which Washington can now do whatever they want. It cannot be ruled out that According to the already tested scheme, Patriot missiles will end up in Ukraine,” said the scandalous press secretary of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

She threatened that transfers of missiles for Patriot systems would have “serious consequences” for Russian-Japanese relations.

The publication recalled that relations between Moscow and Tokyo, which had previously been difficult, deteriorated significantly after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. In particular, Japan joined its Western allies in introducing large-scale economic sanctions against the Russian Federation.

Last week, Japan said it would send Patriot air defense missiles to the United States after overhauling its arms export rules. This will be Tokyo's first major overhaul of its export restrictions in nine years. Japan's new export controls still prevent it from supplying weapons to countries at war, but it could indirectly help Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Recall that Russia and Japan have not yet concluded a peace agreement on the official cessation of hostilities following the Second World War. There is a territorial dispute between the countries over the Kuril Islands. Even before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Tokyo complained about the increase in Russian military deployment on the islands that the Soviet Union captured from Japan at the end of World War II.

Back in 2021, Japan declared its sovereignty over the Southern Kuril Islands. Tokyo considers the islands of Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and the Habomai group of islands, which Russia considers its own, occupied.
