Russia will react to the blocking of the RT DE channel in Germany, there may be consequences for German journalists in Russia, the Russian ambassador to Berlin Sergei Nechaev threatened, writes Die Zeit.
According to him, a reaction will certainly follow from the Russian side. At the same time, the diplomat did not specify exactly what steps could be taken after the channel was excluded from broadcasting.
“I am not a Delphic Oracle, but there are various options. There are many German journalists in Russia, ”Nechaev said. He noted that in Russia there are conditions for the comfortable work of representatives of foreign media. “We don't want a conflict. We just want our broadcaster in Germany to have the same rights and opportunities, ”he added.
Finally, when asked whether the reciprocal steps could affect the work of, for example, Deutsche Welle in Russia, the diplomat said that there is “no automatism.”
The fact that the German-language media regulator MABB demanded to remove the RT DE TV channel from broadcasting in Europe became known on December 22 last year. European satellite operator Eutelsat 9B complied with the demand and removed RT DE, which is broadcasting from studios in Moscow, from the grid. The press service of RT DE called MAAB's actions illegal.
