Russia systematically jams GPS signal in Finland — ISW

In addition, numerous GPS jammings have been recorded in other countries in the Baltic region.

Finnish authorities said that recently the number of malfunctions has increased GPS, and also that most navigation problems are caused by Russia.

This is stated in a message from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The Finnish Federal Agency for Transport and Communications Traficom told the Finnish publication Iltalehti that GPS service failures have increased over the past week, citing an incident in the Gulf of Finland on the night of July 10-11. < /p>

“A Finnish maritime pilot reported on X that he experienced serious GPS and radar malfunctions during the night while piloting other vessels near Kotka and Hamina on the southern coast of Finland. The pilot posted a video of his radar malfunctioning and reported “that GPS was unavailable on 90 percent of the route between the Örrengrund pilot substation and Hamina Harbour,” the report said.

GPS and radar obstructions in the Gulf of Finland are linked to Russian obstructions affecting the Baltics and other parts of Europe.

Obstacles from Kaliningrad had earlier jammed the GPS of a plane carrying then-British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps and forced the Finnish aircraft carrier Finnair to cancel several flights from Finland.

In addition, numerous GPS jammings have been recorded in other countries in the Baltic region.

Analysts say the signal jamming may be one of Russia's hybrid campaigns, which is intensifying and aimed directly at NATO countries, and is likely aimed at undermining support for Ukraine and NATO unity.

Recall that it was previously reported that in Britain, tens of thousands of flights experienced GPS jamming, Russia is suspected of this.

In addition, we previously reported that Russia is jamming the GPS signal over Europe.
