Russia suspected of spreading misinformation about Biden

Joe Biden

American intelligence provided to legislators and presidential campaigns, information indicating that Russia is behind the spread of misinformation directed against the presumptive nominee from the Democratic party of the United States Joe Biden. It is reported by CNN, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Despite the fact that both Republicans and Democrats overwhelmingly believe that Russia might interfere in the upcoming presidential election in the United States, the parties disagreed about the intelligence information about the intentions of Moscow, writes CNN.

“The security services came to very solid conclusions about what the Russians are plotting and acting on their behalf,” said August 6, Senator from Democrats Chris Murphy (Chris Murphy). “In which I received the information there can be no doubt of Russian intentions and what rumors they are promoting and what people,” he added.

Republicans, in turn, argue that intelligence give an idea about the desire of Moscow to sow discord in US elections and this is just part of a wider range of foreign intervention, which the us intelligence monitors from other countries, including China and Iran.

“It is clear that foreign governments want to disrupt our elections. That the Iranians and the Chinese are not very fond of [President Donald] trump,” said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (Lindsey Graham), answering a question about Russia’s intentions. “The important thing is that they play on in our own backyard — and this is the main conclusion,” he concluded.

Democrats believe that intelligence intended to undermine the candidacy of Biden, and to help Trump, said CNN. However, they did not say directly whether they were told about it by representatives of intelligence, but some legislators said that the information announced at a recent briefing suggests that foreign governments are working to help specific candidates. Republicans objected, when asked whether they had seen evidence that Russia is helping Trump.
