Russia attacked the Turkish-backed terrorists with an Iskander cruise missile from the Khmeimim airbase. This was reported by the Avia.pro portal with reference to the British Syrian Monitoring Center for Human Rights (SOHR), but there was no official confirmation from the Russian side.
The aim of the strike, combined with two other strikes by the Syrian army using Tochka-U missile systems, were militant groups near the Syrian-Turkish border. According to SOHR, the attack could serve as a warning to the Turkish authorities: if the Ankara-controlled forces begin any kind of escalation in Syria, Russian troops are ready to hit targets almost anywhere in the country.
The blow was delivered from a distance of 250 kilometers. If necessary, the Russian missile system is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 500 kilometers. It is noted that, despite the absence of official statements from the Ministry of Defense, the use of Iskander in Syria was agreed and could have taken place.
In February, the Ministry of Defense published footage of the use of this missile system in Syria.
