Finnish border guards told reporters that no asylum seekers arrived at Finland's eastern border as of December 17 after border crossings with Russia were closed.
At the same time, it is reported that one person climbed over the fence and entered Finnish territory near the Vaalimaa checkpoint. After this, it was decided to strengthen the fence and video surveillance.
The border service also reported that by the time the checkpoint was closed, a group of 100-200 people was heading to Vaalimaa, but later turned around and went back. Another group of people stayed at the fence overnight and warmed themselves by the fire, but the next day everyone left.
