Russia spoke about the desire of the EU to distance it from Belarus

The European Union does not want to allow a rapprochement between Russia and Belarus. This is stated in an interview with the Permanent Representative of Moscow to the EU Vladimir Chizhov for RIA Novosti.

According to the diplomat, the European alliance does not want to allow complete destabilization in the republic, but at the same time they fear a rapprochement between Moscow and Minsk. Chizhov believes that the desire to alienate the countries is also indicated by the fact that the EU considers the results of the presidential elections to be rigged, but at the same time does not break diplomatic relations with Belarus. In addition, there were no statements in the association about the recognition of the former candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya as the legally elected president.

Chizhov also critically assessed the upcoming summit of the EU heads of state, where the oppositionist is to speak. This position is due to the fact that, opposing any external interference, the EU is actually interfering in the affairs of Belarus. “European politicians walk around Mrs. Tikhanovskaya, excuse me, like cats around sour cream. If they just wanted to look at her, this is one thing, but if they want to give her some political advances, this is something else, ”said Moscow's permanent representative.

We are talking about the past meeting of Tikhanovskaya with the French leader Emmanuel Macron and the future visit of the oppositionist to Berlin, where she is to talk with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The EU summit, where, among other things, they planned to discuss the situation in Belarus, is to take place on October 5-6.

Presidential elections were held in Belarus on August 9. The CEC announced that Lukashenka won 80 percent of the vote, Tikhanovskaya – 10 percent. This triggered massive protests across the country that have lasted for two months.
