The Russian embassy in the United States sent a note to the State Department asking them not to transfer convicted Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko to another prison. This was announced on Friday by Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov, his words are quoted on the diplomatic mission's Facebook page.
“At the request of the relatives of the Russian, they sent a note to the US State Department with a request not to change the place of detention of Yaroshenko,” Antonov said.
The diplomat said that the embassy is concerned about the decision of the American authorities to transfer Yaroshenko to another correctional facility. The embassy, he said, does not know the name, type and regime of the prison to which the United States wanted to transfer the pilot.
In early April, Yaroshenko was called upon to be released from an American prison in Danbury, Connecticut, amid the coronavirus epidemic. The ICR returned to the case of Yaroshenko's abduction by the American special services and forcing him to testify.
Konstantin Yaroshenko was convicted in 2011 of conspiracy to smuggle drugs. He was brought to the United States from Liberia, where he was arrested on May 28, 2010. The Russian was held in prison without the provision of consular and legal assistance, tortured in order to extract a confession. Russian diplomats were not notified of the arrest. Yaroshenko was allegedly caught transporting a large consignment of cocaine and sentenced to 20 years.
