Russia rewrote history textbook: how war in Ukraine was justified

The book says that the West has ignored Russia's security interests for years.

A new school textbook was presented in Moscow, in which Russia's war against Ukraine is compared to the USSR's fight against Nazi Germany.

About Reuters reported this.

Vladimir Putin sees the war, which Moscow officially calls a “Special Military Operation,” as a difficult but necessary struggle against Western- and NATO-backed Ukraine. He says it is part of a wider existential struggle against a “decaying West” that is trying to weaken and dismember Russia.

The three-volume “Military History of Russia” was edited by Vladimir Medinsky, a Putin aide who led the 2022 Ukraine talks in the early months of the war and who has now co-authored a Russian history textbook.

The book says the modern Russian army sometimes uses methods used by the Soviet army during World War II. In the section on Russian troops in the special military operation, the textbook tries to explain to schoolchildren why the introduction of troops into Ukraine in 2022 was a “forced step.”

Speaking at a press conference at TASS dedicated to the new book, Ivan Basyk, a military historian serving in the Russian army, said:

“The most important task was to explain to the younger generation, schoolchildren, the forced nature of the special military operation carried out by the Russian Federation,” he said.

Recall that in Energodar, which is under Russian occupation, local kindergartens were given 410 copies of the propaganda publication “Azbuka” Zaporozhye”.
